Financial Aide Strikes Again

My school's financial aid office fucked me over. They claimed I had too many cumulative hours completed and no degree (because I changed my mind a few times), so they flagged me as unsatisfactory academic progress. Even though I'm registered as General Studies, so it should be normal for GS students to take a lot of classes to figure out what we want to do. They didn't even bother to ask me to explain that I've finally got direction and am working on pre-reqs to go to a Uni for nursing school. They did this just this week too, so no time to appeal the decision before tuition is due on Friday. I can't afford school on my own. They fucked me over beyond my control-they're supposed to give me enough time to respond!

Fuck my life. I can't attend this semester. Nursing school pushed back yet even longer. Now it's looking like Fall 2011 if I'm lucky. I want to cry. Guess it's back to working full time. :(

  1. Are you in the US or Canada - if you are an American citizen go to FAFSA.com [ I am sure you know this] but the deadline is March 1, 2010 - and with your income, etc. you should qualify for financial aid from the government.

You might even be able to get some for the summer semester instead of waiting until fall.

Hope that helps. I have been dealing with a bazillion different deadlines for my graduating senior [her counselor is useless] so feel your pain. Good luck.

And remember - better late than never, right?

  2. Thanks SM, but I the money I was supposed to get came from doing my FAFSA. :( I'm in the US. FAFSA's deadline is different from my school's deadline for tuition. So my Pell Grant is probably being sent back because my school has screwed everything up and I don't have $1,500 to pay for this semester on my own.

True, better late than never! Guess I'll start working more shifts at work and putting some money in the bank :)

I thought about Summer, however the classes I need are not offered in the summer..

  3. That's bullshit! They have to give you notification, they have to give you time to respond. Demand to talk to someone higher up, there is NO freaking excuse for that.

  5. You guys, I've tried. I'm going to fight it, but nothing can be in time for me to go to this semester.
